From the '71 Corolla, page 425:
One of the highlights of Homecoming '70 was the appearance of The Band. Without introduction or preliminaries, The Band took the stage against a stark background and made pretty music that put all who heard it under their spell. While some groups make noise, The Band plays music. The lead guitarist, Robbie Robertson, said,"We always wanted to play in Alabama." We can only hope that they enjoyed playing as much as the audience enjoyed listening.

I start my day in a very unusual way. I walk over to the bar & have a beer & a peppermint schnapps. My nickname is "LAST SHOT BOB." Down @ the Pub Monday night they were talking about me & the bartender bet this cat a dollar that I'd come through the doors @ 1:32 A.M. I walk in & all I hear is "OH, S#!T!" Brady had lost his bet.

Now here's a classic case of musical irony, Billy Joe Royal was making a big comeback on the Country charts in 1986 with his hit “Burned Like a Rocket.” Number 23 with a bullet…then the next week the Challenger space shuttle blew up and all the radio stations pulled his song off the air. A story I read on the Net said that on the morning of Jan. 28, 1986, a DJ on a big radio station
already had the song cued up on an automated tape system & played it immediately after the CBS coverage of the Challenger tragedy. Nobody thought it was funny.

What a TERRIFIC Halloween-Bama Homecoming weekend we had in 1970! THE BAND put on this terrific show Friday night and then on Halloween EVERY damn Mississippi State fan brought a cowbell to Denny Stadium. IT MADE YOUR EARS BLEED. It was beyond loud. It was PAINFUL but Bama almost shut 'em out. It was 35 to zip until the last 16 seconds. Final score 35-6. Then on Sunday, November 1, we had WINTER QUAD! BAMA ROCKED that weekend!
